Healthcare Initiatives

In August 2008, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) awarded the 9th Statement of Work (SOW) contracts to the Medicare Quality Improvement Organizations (QIOs). The QIO contracts extend from August 1, 2008, through July 31, 2011, and mark a new direction for the QIO Program. This new direction includes:
  • Projects that span the entire spectrum of the health care community
  • Focusing on quality improvement resources where they are needed the most
  • Addressing key priorities of health care quality including identification and reduction of disparities across a continuum of care and across racial/ethnic, geographic, socioeconomic and demographic lines.
